i've been thinking about knots a lot lately. still such a potent metaphor for me. im still seeing my making interests divided (or combining) the world of systems (knots, diagrams, directions, maps, math, schematics, music, text, physics) with the world of whim (materials, emotions, representation, abstraction). i want to make my own diagrams and how-to manuals-- trying to figure out how to work with these two veins of thinking that seem to oppose each other. right now reading the biography on robert irwin called seeing is forgetting the name of the thing one sees. came across this:
